While the title track on this two-disc EP/DVD is one of the most dazzlingly operatic songs Sigur Ros has ever recorded, the new songs included on SAEGLOPUR are notable primarily for their restraint. "Saeglopur" was a single off of the Icelandic band's full-length TAKK, and while it was a standout, it was not out of place on that richly orchestrated disc. Here, though, a slightly extended version of the song serves as the introduction to three very different tracks.

"Refur" circles around haunting piano figures echoing in what seems to be endless space. "O Fridur" has a slightly more anxious feel, with trembling strings and flutes appearing and disappearing, playing hide-and-seek with a faintly traced piano tune. And "Kafari" is the most pared down of all.

S‘gl¢pur collects the expansive single of the same name from Sigur R¢s' 2005 Takk... and augments it with three unreleased cuts: "Refur," a soft, piano-led instrumental followed by the typically atmospheric and string-laden space rocker "O Fridur," and the more ambient-sounding "Kafari." Also included is a bonus DVD disc with videos for the singles "Gl¢s¢li," "Hopp¡polla," and "S‘gl¢pur." ~ James Christopher Monger
